A day trip to one of many beautiful places in Italy–Cinque Terre! Several times I was in Italy for theater workshops, and Cinque Terre had been on my wish list for a long time. But I have never made it out there until this summer. Definitely you have to go there for more than a day. It’s such a shame only to be there for a day when you can spend days, months and more to soak in the beauty of small charming villages and water, hills, and mountains surrounding the Cinque Terre National Park. But a day was what I had this time, a free day while taking a theater course in Piacenza and I was determined to make it there this time.
Due to the recent mudslide accidents, all the trails between the five villages were officially closed except one. With my very limited time there, taking the ferry was the best way to see Cinque Terre. They offer different kinds of ferry tickets to suit your needs. Depending how busy it is, the ferry might be full and you may need to wait for the next one.
Even if you do not hike on the trails connecting the villages, you will be walking a lot and often hilly areas in villages. The villages are full of lovely restaurants, cafes, shops, and galleries so give yourself more time to leisurely wander. (Check out more photos of Cinque Terre in Photo Gallery)
